Sometimes I get the feeling that Spain has jumped straight from the fifteenth century to the twenty-first. The Spain of the conquistadores, of the inquisition, powerful buildings expressing the importance of the nation in the middle ages. But the present always intrudes - the power lines, the satellite dishes, the arc lighting. In many ways, a metaphor for the wines: a wealth of tradition framed by modern understanding and technology.

Some places (we're thinking of New England, for example) have built a reputation on their spectacular autumn colours. But we are just back from driving around Spain in late November. There had been a couple of weeks of rain to freshen up the greens, spectacular reds and yellows in the vineyards and blue skies with a range of clouds! So, for a good Autumn break, for example in early November, come and visit Spanish vineyards to enjoy the explosion of colours, not to mention great Autumn foods like mushrooms and pumpkins and low-season hotel prices!
